As part of the group work assignment, we visited Bjørkelia Elderly Care Centre, performed brainstorming on concepts, presenting concepts, and developing a prototype. The concept and prototype for the elderly is a “Musical Table Runner”. It is a table runner (Løper) that allows a group of users to play an “instrument” while listening to a song. The interaction is designed in a way that it is possible to use the device daily as a table cloth and roll it up when not using it. It has attachable, detachable pillow-like buttons in the places where it needs to be tapped for the musical instrument sounds. The buttons can be crafted by the users themselves and changed whenever they wanted. In the middle of the cloth is a placeholder for the song switching cube. The songs can be switched by turning the “musical cube” and placing the number of the desired song on the top surface. All electronics are hidden in a tube to which the cloth is attached to. It is simple to roll and carry it or store it in a closet or shelf.
